What Is Fostering Fortnight?

Fostering Fortnight, or Foster Care Fortnight, is the biggest UK awareness-raising campaign for fostering. Every year, this campaign aims to raise the profile of fostering and its benefits. It also acts as the biggest UK foster parent and carer recruitment campaign. It was begun by the leading UK fostering charity, The Fostering Network. They established Fostering Fortnight almost 20 years ago as a way to encourage and celebrate fostering and support the organisations and services that fuel the fostering community, to not only highlight the demand for more foster parents and carers, but to thank them for their service.

This year, it is running from the 12th to the 25th of May with the incredible theme: The Power of Relationships. Obviously, this theme was chosen because relationships form the nucleus of all families and every fostering placement and journey. Without the heartfelt commitments and connections made between foster parents and foster children, social workers, fostering agencies, birth parents, and anybody else involved, fostering simply wouldn’t work. Relationships fuelled by mutual love, commitment, dedication, trust and communication are the beating heart of fostering and the fostering community, and that is why they are being celebrated this year! Over the fortnight, different events, activities, and fun will be taking place to celebrate how fostering relationships can shape and transform the lives of children and young people in care.

How Is Foster Care Fortnight Beneficial?

The major aim and benefit of Foster Care Fortnight is to drive awareness and raise the profile of the fostering community. It thus plays an essential role in raising funding and finding prospective new foster parents to transform the lives of young people and children in foster care. It also enables recognition and appreciation for current foster parents and celebrates their hard work and dedication. It drives local engagement and involvement with the fostering world, again to raise awareness of the demand for foster parents and the benefits of becoming one. Overall, it advocates for positive change and showcases the transformative nature of fostering and foster care placements.
